Marianne van Hage honored with a prestigious allergy research award
The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) has awarded Marianne van Hage, CMM Team Leader and Senior Professor of Clinical Immunology at the Department of Medicine Solna, Karolinska Institutet, the Paul Ehrlich Prize 2025. This prize is the highest honor given by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, recognizing outstanding researchers whose groundbreaking work has advanced the scientific understanding of allergic diseases and immunological mechanisms. The prize is named after the German physician and immunologist Paul Ehrlich, who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1908 for his discoveries in immunology. Marianne van Hage is the first Swedish researcher to receive this prestigious award. Previous recipients of the Paul Ehrlich Prize include prominent researchers such as Emma Guttman-Yassky (2024, USA), Kari Nadeau (2023, USA), Sebastian Johnston (2018, United Kingdom), and Cezmi Akdis (2016, Switzerland).
“I feel great joy and gratitude for the recognition this award represents, and I am honored to be the first Swedish recipient,” says Marianne van Hage.
Marianne van Hage is being awarded the prize for her significant pioneering work in molecular allergology and for her major scientific contributions to the understanding of tick-induced food allergy, the Alpha-gal syndrome.
