He obtained his BSc and MSc in Molecular Biology from Sofia University (Sofia, Bulgaria) and his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then completed postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Dan Littman at the New York University School of Medicine.</p>\n<p>Dr. Ivanov’s research focuses on mucosal immunology and the role of the microbiota in regulating gut and systemic immunity and physiology. His work identified the first commensal bacterial species shown to control the function of mucosal T cells. Seminal studies from his laboratory have been instrumental in elucidating how the microbiota interact with intestinal epithelial cells and regulate mucosal T cell differentiation and function. More recently, his group uncovered a network of interactions between diet, the microbiota, and mucosal immunity that influences systemic diseases such as obesity.</p>\n<p>Dr. Ivanov has received multiple honors, including the NIH Pathway to Independence Award, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Young Investigator and Senior Research Awards, two Pew Charitable Trusts Innovation Awards, and the Mayent-Rothschild–Institut Curie Award. He is a Pew Scholar in Biomedical Sciences, supported by the Pew Charitable Trusts, and an Investigator in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease, supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.</p>\n<p>Dr. Ivanov is currently on sabbatical at the Immunity and Cancer Unit of the Institut Curie in He obtained his BSc and MSc in Molecular Biology from Sofia University (Sofia, Bulgaria) and his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then completed postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Dan Littman at the New York University School of Medicine.</p>\n<p>Dr. Ivanov’s research focuses on mucosal immunology and the role of the microbiota in regulating gut and systemic immunity and physiology. His work identified the first commensal bacterial species shown to control the function of mucosal T cells. Seminal studies from his laboratory have been instrumental in elucidating how the microbiota interact with intestinal epithelial cells and regulate mucosal T cell differentiation and function. More recently, his group uncovered a network of interactions between diet, the microbiota, and mucosal immunity that influences systemic diseases such as obesity.</p>\n<p>Dr. Ivanov has received multiple honors, including the NIH Pathway to Independence Award, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Young Investigator and Senior Research Awards, two Pew Charitable Trusts Innovation Awards, and the Mayent-Rothschild–Institut Curie Award. He is a Pew Scholar in Biomedical Sciences, supported by the Pew Charitable Trusts, and an Investigator in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease, supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.</p>\n<p>Dr. Ivanov is currently on sabbatical at the Immunity and Cancer Unit of the Institut Curie in He obtained his BSc and MSc in Molecular Biology from Sofia University (Sofia, Bulgaria) and his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then completed postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Dan Littman at the New York University School of Medicine.\nDr. Ivanov’s research focuses on mucosal immunology and the role of the microbiota in regulating gut and systemic immunity and physiology. His work identified the first commensal bacterial species shown to control the function of mucosal T cells. Seminal studies from his laboratory have been instrumental in elucidating how the microbiota interact with intestinal epithelial cells and regulate mucosal T cell differentiation and function. More recently, his group uncovered a network of interactions between diet, the microbiota, and mucosal immunity that influences systemic diseases such as obesity.\nDr. Ivanov has received multiple honors, including the NIH Pathway to Independence Award, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Young Investigator and Senior Research Awards, two Pew Charitable Trusts Innovation Awards, and the Mayent-Rothschild–Institut Curie Award.
